What does powerflushing mean? 

Powerflushing means a deep clean of your entire central heating system, and is carried out by a qualified Gas Safe registered heating engineer. During a powerflush, the engineer will inject water at high velocity throughout your central heating system to remove dirt, sludge and debris that builds up gradually over time and affects performance.

How do I know my system needs powerflushing? 

If you notice any of the following signs, your system will probably benefit from being powerflushed. 

  • Some cold spots on your radiators 
  • Occasional strange noises or bangs coming from your boiler 
  • A small amount of sludgy water coming from your heating system or boiler 
  • A magnet that sticks to the copper pipework running from your boiler if placed there

How often does my system need powerflushing? 

This specialist task only needs carrying out every 5 to 6 years.

Powerflushing is a specialist job requiring both the right tools and expertise. It should only ever be attempted by an experienced Gas Safe registered engineer. You can ask to see an engineer’s Gas Safe registration, as well as checking their online reviews for extra peace of mind.
