What different types of boilers are there?
There are three different types of boiler; conventional, system and combi.
The latter is likely the boiler type that you're most familiar with because it's the most popular boiler used here in the UK. As the name suggests, a combi boiler combines all of the fundamental components into one package, whereas the other two; conventional and system boilers, require separate water storage tanks in order for the boiler to function.
Which boiler type is best for my home?
The best type of boiler for your home is dependant on your needs.
If you have a large house with more than 2 bathrooms and therefore require lots of hot water, a conventional boiler might be more suited to your needs. On the other hand, if you live in a smaller home, a combi boiler might be more suited to you because you require less water, and you have less space so cannot make room for the tanks, but again, this is all dependent on how much you need to rely on your boiler.
Can I change boiler type?
Yes. If you have a conventional boiler system and would like to change to a combi boiler system instead, this is possible, as is the visa versa option.
How often should I replace my boiler?
On average, boilers should last anywhere between 10-15 years before they need to be replaced, but this does of course depend on how well you've looked after it and how much you use it.
If you have an old boiler that's 20 years old, for example, but it's still in full working order, it might be worth replacing it just so you can take advantage of modern boiler technologies and efficiencies.
Do I need to hire a Gas Safe engineer to install my new boiler?
Yes. It is absolutely imperative that you hire a Gas Safe engineer to install your new boiler.
Why? Anybody that is not Gas Safe is legally not allowed to install gas appliances like gas boilers. And by hiring a non-Gas Safe engineer, you risk putting your home, and more importantly, your family, in danger.

Should I service my boiler every year, even if it's new?
Yes, and there's a reason why every gas engineers recommends annually servicing your boiler; it keeps your boiler in tip top condition and helps you avoid expensive breakdowns in the latter years of the boilers life.
