More Tips for Purchasing a New Boiler

At Armstrong Plumbing & Heating we understand that choosing a new boiler is a complicated process for most people. There’s lots to learn about and consider, with the pressure to make the right purchase so you have a new boiler that’s right for your needs. Our last post on tips for buying a new boiler proved helpful to many of our customers, so we’ve followed it up with this guide on further things it’s important to consider before you commit.

When researching your new boiler, ask yourself:

Do I want to incorporate Smart technology?

When you have a new boiler installed, it’s the perfect time to consider Smart tech for your central heating system. This can easily be done at the same time through a Smart thermostat. This allows you to control your heating from wherever you are - at home or away from an app on your phone.

Doing this makes managing your heating and hot water easy, and it can also save you money on your heating bills due to better control of your energy use.

How many bathrooms do I have?

Different types of boilers suit different types of home, and while your heating engineer should discuss this with you, it’s worth doing some initial research to work out the type that will best suit your needs. For smaller homes with one bathroom, a combi boiler can be ideal, working efficiently and minimising water waste. However, if you have two bathrooms or an ensuite, or are planning to add another bathroom in future, a combi boiler won’t meet your needs. This is because it can only send water to a single source, and lacks the power to effectively serve homes that have a higher heat and hot water demand. In these cases, a system or conventional boiler is likely to be your best choice.

Do I have enough quotes?

Before you commit to your purchase and installation, be sure you have 3 separate quotes from engineers. Cost can vary considerably from different engineers, and the brand and size of boiler selected will also have a big impact. We don’t want you to pay over the odds for your new boiler, although equally it’s often not wise to go with a quote that’s very low, as the engineer in question may not have the skills needed to do the work properly and safely.
